Hello Vlah’s of Trinajstici Kastav Croatia. My name is John A.Vlah of the Unites States. I just discovered this web site and am curious to find if I can connect with any of my relations there. I am focusing on Kastav because I visited there in 1971 with my father Frank Vlah and mother Anne (Ruzic) Vlah and grandmother Mildred ( Milka Percic ) Vlah. My grandfather, Kuzmz Vlah, had already passed away by that time. We visited Ivan Vlah and family while there. My understanding is that Ivan was cousin to my father. Which I think, but am not sure, would make him the son of Kuzma’s brother (whose name I do not know. My guess is that Ivan was in his 50’s in ‘71. He and his son were barrel makers and I am sitting next to a small barrel he gave us with his name and town name branded on the top, that I have kept all these years. I was 22 years old when we visited and got very drunk on Ivan’ excellent white wine. That, of course, embarrassed my parents in a big way and no one, including myself, was very happy with me at the time. I have since learned to behave myself.
If any of this sounds like I may be a branch of your Vlah clan, or you have any questions, please respond. I would like to hear from you.
Best regards,
John Vlah

Hi My Grandfather’s name was Rudolf Vlah he came from Kastav. I know the family had a farm in the area, not sure if it was in Trinajstic. He had a brother named Kuzma who went to America and I think there is another brother named Josip. My mother died 18 months ago and I have been trying to find out more about her father’s side of the family.
I would really like to find out about them. Can anyone help?

Kia ora (Greetings) from New Zealand,
I have just found both John and Rossana’s postings. Wonderful information. My great great grandmother was Maria Vlah. I believe she was born in Pula, however, she married Matteo Jusic from Jusici which is not far from Kastav. Jusici was where my great grandfather was, Aloysuis (Louis) Jusic and his siblings were born. Louis migrated to NZ around 1870s and settled in the South Island of NZ.
Would like to explore if we have whanau (family) connections.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Vlah Clan Hi John and Lesley.
John, yes we are related. You grandfather Kuzma was my grandfather Rudolf’s brother. Their father’s name was Josephus Vlah and their mother was Marie Mandic. Marie was his second wife as there was another brother named Josip who went to America in 1907 when he was 28. My grandfather was just 10 at the time and Kuzma was 19. Kuzma followed Josip to America when in 2011.
Lesley, I think I have spoken to you before on Ancestry. I have managed to get a lot more information than I had then. There is a Marie Vlah in our family and she could possibly be y
our relative.
If you want more information you should look in facebook there is a a group called Kastav cousins, I shall see if you have a facebook page and invite you to the group.
