Saborsko Vital Records

Saborsko parish vital records destroyed

Upon receiving request to perform genealogy research for a family whose ancestors came from small Croatian village of Saborsko, we realized that during the war for Croatian independence (1991-95), the village has been completely devastated by Serb forces and the local Catholic church destroyed by fire, so all of the vital records that were kept in the parish were burned.

Since the burnt books covered the period from the late 18th to early 20th century, it is virtually impossible to link living persons with their ancestors whose records can be found in Church Archives in the city of Senj. Those who are interested to see remaining copies of vital records from Saborsko that cover years 1833, 1839 and 1840 can contact the Sakralna baština museum and archives, Trg cimeter 7, 53270 Senj, phone number +385 53 882 109.
