Staro podbiokovsko hrvatsko pleme Kunić, iz velike župe Vrdol,
sa sjeverne strane Biokova, spominje se već u 17. st. kao izvorno prezime iz kojega je nastalo prezime Šućur.
Naime, istraživač porijekla prezimena, fra Vijeko Vrčić u svojoj knjizi “Prezimena imotske krajine”, Grafotisak, Grude, 1990. ističe da je prezime Šućur nastalo od prezimena Kunić, jer je PETAR KUNIĆ rečeni “Šućur” 10. travnja 1786. unešen u Maticu krštenih kao kum na jednom krštenju.
Dobro je poznato da se baš u tom vremenu uvodi obveza uvođenja prezimena ( od 1725.) i to najčešće od nadimaka.
Tako prezime Šućur iz imotske krajine vuče svoj izvor od Petra Kunića zvanog Šućur.
