My surname is Vlahovich (formerly Vlahovic). I live in Australia. My grandmother is still alive here & was born in Split, her father was born in Vis.
I am learning more about their history through journals & I would like to know more. If anyone has any information that would be great!
Hvala!

Mom was a Vlahovic. They are from island of Brac and town of
Milna. Split is the nearest city to Island Brac
Many left during second world war just to escape the county which was occupied by Italians and Germans. Some went to south America and others to Australia.
Some were also rescued by English and sent to Egypt in the
El shatt region and then returned to Dalmatia. Also something about a nick name of cadetovi … Which means cotton growers
My mom was Marija Vlahovic daughter of
Jerka Aracic and Tome Vlahovic from Milna Dalmatia

Abby my family are also Vlahovic from Milna, Brac. Also have family that moved to Argentina in the second world war. I am wondering if we are possibly related. Please get back to me, maybe we can piece more together.

I am a Djordjevic of Serb ethnicity and my girlfriend is a Vlahos of Greek ethnicity. We were looking into name meanings and we came upon this name thinking wow, this is like a hybrid of our surnames. So the evic prefix means “son of”. She knows that Vlahos in Greek refers to being a “hills person” that grows vegetables, basically it means rural farmer. We think perhaps that origin of the name being Greek, as many words are based on Greek, could mean defe”descendant of a rural farmer. Just conjecture and curiosity here.

Confirm, plenty of Vlahovic from Brac (be it Supetar, Nerezidsca, Milna or Bol). My family ended up in Chile and Bolivia. Dinko’s, Milan, Uros,Milan, Davor to name a few and Alemka, Milka, Daborka (yeah with a b), Vesna, etc… All from Brac are in one way or another related.
