Looking for our ancestors from Croatia. The last name is Belin here in the USA. Not sure if the spelling was originally Balen or Beljan. My great-grandfather came from a village near Ozalj. His name was Frank and his father was Peter. Just trying to figure out if any Catholic Church would have records of our family. I appreciate any help! I am not sure where to start! Thank you
Cynthia Belin
My name is Ana. I come from Dalmatia. And my moms maiden name was Balen. She actually had a great grandfather that immigrated to the US in 1912,and we never knew what happened to him. His name was Nikola. It was said he came to our little village of Lisicic, which is in the Zadar region, from Lika. But where does the last name really originate from,we are not quite sure.
Any chance you could give us some more information about your family,it would be greatly appreciated. We strongly believe we have relatives in the US we know nothing about. But would love to get to know more. Nikola spent there 40 yrs of his life, and never made it back to Croatia alive…its all a mistery.
I am looking for people with surname Balen. My grandfather was Nikola Balen whose name was Americanized to Nicholas Bailen. My grandmothers name was Manda Bolen. They were from Yugoslavia.
My grandfather’s last name was Balen, but when his parents moved to the U.S. they changed the last name to Bailen. He and his 10 brothers and sisters became orphans just a few years after coming to America. He lived in an orphanage until he was 15 and then left to work on someone’s farm. Anyway I am trying to find relatives that may still live in Croatia.
My grandmothers maiden name is Balen! She immigrated from croatia (I believe near Lika) to Canada when she was 14 with her family. Her parents names were Milan and Ika Balen.
My grandmother was Manda Balen of Sveti Roc
She married Ivica Pavicic of Boricevac
Red Cross took her to Venezuela then Argentina
