My name is Lisa Kosanovich. I’m only just beginning to do research on my husband’s paternal family line. I am interested in any information you may have to help direct and guide my search. While at Disneyland in Ainheim California, the geneology society there told us a little about each of our names. My maiden name had a crest, etc. The name Kosanovich the only thing he could tell us was this: the Kosanovic name is croatian (we knew that), and that this name was a composite – it was created by knights/mercenaries who banded together to protect their “tribe” or people however they were organized. He said that the people were around the river Kosan and so they were known as the “sons of the river Kosan” – a name meaning they were banded together to protect their homeland and their people. He was not able to produce a coat of arms or shield for this group but only the native Croatian equivalent.
Hello. My maternal grandfather was Bozidar Kosanovic from Jasenak near Ogulin. There is a Jasenak Facebook group that has many Kosanovic and related lines.
