I am researching the ancestry of the paternal side of the mothers family. My mothers fathers name was Mijo (Michael) Bursic and his passport to the US says he was born in Istria in 1894. His father’s name may have been Ambrose. He came to the US in 1905 but I know he made several trips across. My grandmother was a Eugate (Eugacic/Ugate/Gates) born in Tyrone Pensslyvania. Her mother too was born in Austria, of croatian descent.

You might be the same family. But not Istria, Maletic near Karlovac. Did he go to Pittsburgh or Michigan? I thought My Great Grandfather was Ambrose, but it was Mirko Imbro Bursic.

My Bursic’ family came from Maletice near Karlovac. But, I talked to a Bursic’ that lives in Istria and he said the Bursic’ Family has been in Istria for over 500 hundred years. He said somebody researched the name and it was originally from Turkey 2000 thousand years ago and it was Bursa in Turkey.

This is probably my family. It was assumed his name was Ambrose, but it was Mirko. I am also related to Eugate.
