I was told by my father (b1905 and first generation USA) that it means or stands for “Big Tree” because it’s root is the Linden tree. In Croatia it was spelled “Liposcak”; however, the US customs/immigrations folks added the h (Liposchak) to make it sound the same. My grandfather and his wife came to the USA in the 1898-1900 period. I believe they were the first Liposcaks here.
My Great Grandfather came to Ellis Island.
His name was Daniel Lipochak
