Hello Genealogy and Family History Webmaster,
Please tell me if the surname Licanka originates in Croatia.
In Ancestry.com I found the name Josephine Licanka in the Cook County, Illinois USA abstract for a birth record for Rosie Hajduk, but nothing else about the mother Josephine.
Another record in Ancestry.com is a marriage record for Carl Bratz Jr. and Johanne Licanka, her father Max and her mother Henn’etta.
A Google.com map shows a town and stream with the name. A Google search revealed a Brewery Licanka in the Lika region near Licanka. Please direct me to the origin of Licanka.
That is a summary of the little I found on the internet databases. I called major libraries in the U.S. but they have not found the origin either and instructed me to search Slavic language regions, including Croatia, Italy, Hungary and Serbia. Where else should could I go for more on this name or is it extinct nowadays?
