Topić surname can be found in Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia- Hercegovina. As to its origin, there are several theories. The most popular is that the Turks gave the name to someone based on a deformity (lame). That does not make any sense based on the language. The Turkish language has two roots which could fit the bill. One root is topalo and the other is top. If one adds the Slavic ‘ich’, in the first case, one gets Topalovich. In t he 2nd case one gets Topich. Note that the the two meanings are not the same. The 2nd meaning, top, means gun, canon, while the first, topalo, means lame. There is other evidence to suggest that the root of Topic is Top.
There are several places of origin: Bosnia, Herzegovina. I have heard about Albania but I have been unable to confirm this.
I hope this helps.
