I am tracing my family tree. My grandfather, John Zvonkovich, was the son of Johan and Jela Ribaric Zvonkovich. All were from Jurovski Brod, Karlovac. Any help you can give me with information or directions on how to proceed will be GREATLY appreciated!

I am looking for the origin of my family name “Reiterits” which comes from the area of Mittelburgenland / Austria (location: Dörfl). However, I suspect that my family name is originally derived from “Ribarits”, since this name also appears again and again in the birth registers in Burgenland. The different spellings have changed over time, because the spoken (understood) word was always written down by the pastors. Since I know from historical records that Croatians were settled in Dörfl around 1530, who come mainly from the Croatian coast, my guess is that my family name is derived from “Ribaric”. If anyone has any hints I would be very grateful.
